"Being"
-- Life, Liberty, Love, and Light
by Brian Matthew Kessler
I When was the last time you experienced
life? Was it for real and full of strife?
Do you wish to continue doing what you've done until now?
Is it not like pasturing like a mindless cow?
Are you attempting to live the life you want?
Or does your mortality too much haunt?
Have you ever let yourself go?
Did you fly like an arrow from a bow?
Do you think about what you do?
Or are you like a caged
animal in a zoo?
II When was the last time you insisted on your liberty?
Have you been too much like Jell-O and quivery?
Do you strive to make yourself free?
Or are you content just to be?
Have you been standing on your own too feet?
Were you that unwilling to take the heat?
Would you like a new tomorrow?
Or is this risking too much sorrow?
Do you soar like an eagle?
Or have you been trained just like a beagle?
III When was the last time you were truly in
love?Did it fit you just like a glove?
Have you ever had a real friend?
To your ears, does this thought offend?
Can you remember the last time you felt joy?
Are you so certain it was the
real McCoy?How long has it been since you last had fun?
Or the last time you enjoyed the sun?
Are you capable of appreciating the moon?
Or are you too obsessed with becoming a tycoon?
IV When was the last time you tried to reach the light?
Did you exhaust all of your might?
Have you ever had a new thought go through your head?
Are you sure your brain is not dead?
Are you listening to what I have to say?
Do you wish I would just go away?
These words, do you allow yourself to hear?
Or are you just too full of fear?
Do you understand these lessons you should learn?
Or are you too afraid to burn?
